Matsyasana, Fish Pose.
Ladies if you’re looking for an all round healthy glow, allow me to introduce Fish Pose (Matsyasana)–The pose of ‘Vitality and Youthfulness’!
This beautiful backbend helps to restore youthfulness by improving circulation, digestion and hormone function to the body, ensuring all systems are operating as they should be.
Matsyasana is particularly useful for abdominal ailments as it stretches into the intestines and abdominal organs. It brings circulation and flexibility to the hip joints and pelvis, and helps to alleviate the build up of tensions that may contribute to fibroid tumours, uterine and ovarian cysts and even menstrual cramps.
All of the muscles from the hips to the neck are stretched as you recline back onto the forearms. This helps to aid digestion, alleviating constipation and stimulating the thyroid gland for improved thyroid function.
The chest and the diaphragm open and expand, improving respiration and helping to relieve asthma and bronchitis.
Precautions: Please don’t practice if pregnant, have heart disease, peptic ulcers or a hernia.
Please note: The traditional variation of the pose is shown above and is conducted in Padmasana (crossed legs). Padmasana is not available to many people and the pose may also be practiced with straight legs. If practicing in Padmasana prepare the hips and knees first.
A supported version of this pose with a bolster or pillow under the back and head can help alleviate stomachache, acidity, and indigestion.
Let me know how you find it .
